1. Adult-managed family accounts
RPA memberships and accounts are intended to be created and managed by a parent, guardian, teacher, or other adult. Children use learning tools through that adult-managed account and should not create an account on their own.
2. Information connected to a child
- An optional first name entered by the family on the Library dashboard.
- A selected reading stage, activity completion marks, and simple preferences.
- Reading Check answers used in the browser to create a stage result.
- For coaching, a grown-up may provide the child’s first name, age, grade, and reading goals or concerns.
- During a coaching session, Zoom processes the child’s display name, real-time voice, optional camera image, chat, and standard device or connection information.
Dashboard names, stages, and completion information are stored on the family’s device whenever possible. Coaching information is stored with the adult-managed account so Ms. Ashley can plan and teach the child.
3. What we do not ask children for
- Children do not need to provide an email address, phone number, home address, or full date of birth.
- Children are not asked to upload photographs or voice recordings.
- RPA does not ask children for precise location, biometric information, government identification, or medical records.
- RPA does not provide open social profiles, public posts, or contact with strangers.
4. Coaching sessions
A parent, guardian, or authorized adult must book coaching for the child and provide permission before any session takes place. The adult receives notice of the information collected and how sessions are run.
Coaching sessions take place through Zoom with Ms. Ashley, either one-to-one or in a small group of up to six readers. In a small group, children can see and hear one another, and first names are visible. Families may choose to keep their child’s camera off. RPA does not record routine sessions. Participants may not record, photograph, take screenshots, or copy the chat.
If RPA ever wants to use a child’s image, voice, work, or story for promotion, the parent or guardian will receive a separate written request. Booking coaching is not a media release.
5. The Reading Check
The Reading Check is designed for a grown-up to complete about a child. Answers are used in the browser to form a reading-stage result. If the grown-up chooses email delivery, RPA sends the adult’s email address, optional first name, and resulting reading stage to Flodesk. The grown-up may skip email and view the result on screen.
6. Analytics and advertising
RPA does not load Google Analytics on child-facing lesson and practice pages. RPA does not show children behavioral advertising, sell children’s information, or create commercial profiles from reading activity.
7. Parent and guardian rights
A parent or guardian may ask whether RPA holds personal information about their child, request access or correction, withdraw permission, or request deletion. Email msashleyreadingcoach@gmail.com. We may take reasonable steps to verify that the requester is the child’s parent or guardian.
8. Children under 13
RPA is designed for family-directed educational use. A grown-up must manage the account and any coaching bookings. If we learn that personal information was collected from a child under 13 without appropriate parent or guardian involvement, we will stop using it, delete it when required, or seek the required permission.
9. Retention
Coaching details and learning notes are kept while the child is working with RPA and for up to 12 months afterward. Parent consent records may be kept for up to seven years to meet legal and business duties. Routine coaching sessions are not recorded. A parent or guardian may request earlier deletion, subject to legal, safety, payment, or dispute requirements.
